Meet Ella Yoo

Ella Yoo is the founder and designer of Ella Yoo Jewelry. She is an artist who draws inspiration from everyday life to create her art on metal and canvas. Ella Yoo Jewelry has emerged from her close communication with her artworks, resulting in various collections.

Ella Yoo majored Creative Writing at Daejeon University in South Korea [BA] in 2013. She encountered a poem “The potato eaters” which inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s painting “The Potato Eaters” by JinKyu Chyung. Through the poem, she discovered the works of Van Gogh, further igniting her interest in painting. For her graduation project, she presented a critique titled “A Contrapuntal Dialogue between Literature and Painting: Seeing Van Gogh through Poetry, Seeing Van Gogh through painting.” Deeply exploring the vibrant exchange and connection between literature and painting.

She transferred to the Metal and Jewelry Design program at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York in 2016 and graduated in 2020 with a BFA.  Centered on her interests, she studied jewelry design while actively creating acrylic abstract paintings, finding a connection between her jewelry collection and her paintings. At her graduation online exhibition, inspired by the book "The Laws of Human Nature," by Robert Greene  she presented contemporary jewelry and abstract paintings under the same theme "The Laws of Human Nature," leading a creative collaboration between jewelry and painting. One of her graduation pieces, a contemporary necklace, was selected for the 2019 Jewelry and Metal survey JaMS publication. Furthermore, her wearable art piece was showcased on Project Runway in 2019, and her work was featured at the ALANA Artist Union Honors Show held at Dyer Arts Center in Rochester, New York in the same year.

Ella Yoo obtained her GIA Alumni qualification in 2024, striving to uphold ethical gemstone distribution and responsible business practices.

Ella Yoo asserts that jewelry should be seen not just as accessories but as individual pieces of art, striving for modern and contemporary beauty centered on the organic connection between art and jewelry. Drawing on her expertise in gemstones and metals, she designs jewelry imbued with artistic narratives and meanings, offering high-quality products crafted from ethical source and professional techniques.
